What would be the benefits of drinking hot water?

"In general, drinking water is essential for health because it helps to hydrate the body and the organs" recalls Josette Chapelle from the outset. "Our body is largely made up of water: water allows you to have beautiful skin and more fluid blood. It's fundamental."

Why drink hot water?

"The closer the temperature of the water is to that of the body, the better it is assimilated by the body. Drinking hot water thus makes it possible to hydrate without creating thermal shock in the body and without it having to expend energy to cool or heat it", explains Josette ChapelletChapelle. The ideal is thus to drink water at 37°C, or even up to 40°C to enjoy the health benefits.

Why natural? "It is better to favor natural hot water because it will immediately hydrate the body. Flavored water requires digestion" underlines our interlocutor.

Drinking hot water before sleeping: a good idea?

"Hot water at the right temperature, that is to say between 37°C and 40°C, can be consumed at any time of the day" informs the specialist in Chinese medicine but it is mainly indicated in the morning. "In the morning, our Yang energy wakes up, the body awakens and warms up. Hot water will encourage this process."

Does drinking hot water make you lose weight?

"I wouldn't say that drinking hot water makes you lose weight. However, drinking cold water does not help people lose weight," answers Josette Chapelle. Indeed, drinking cold will consume Yang's energy to heat the water. This energy is associated with digestion in traditional Chinese medicine and with two organs: the spleen and the stomach, which are the root of the production of energy, blood, and body fluids. If we gradually weaken the energy of these two organs, we weaken their ability to transform food into energy and other substrates necessary for the body. Digestion becomes more difficult and less efficient, we are tired, first after meals and then all the time, and metabolic waste accumulates and becomes encrusted, in the form of fat.

Drinking hot water after each meal: what's the point?

In Chinese medicine, it is advisable to drink after a meal. "We actually recommend not to drink before the meal to digest well, to drink little during the meal except if the food is dry and to drink hot water after the meal to constitute in the stomach a "hot soup" which will pass easily into the small intestine and allow for better assimilation of nutrients."

Why shouldn't you drink too cold during meals? "From a Chinese medicine point of view, we consider that for digestion to go well, food must be processed by the body at 37 degrees. Before meals, the so-called fire comes into action. digestive: stomach acids are ready to receive food and transform it.Drinking cold before meals have the effect of diluting the digestive juices and extinguishing this fire.Result: food will not be well digested. In addition, the digestive energy will be gradually weakened by this practice, digestion will become more and more difficult, with signs such as fatigue after meals, bloating..."

Why people drinking hot water in the morning?

"If the water is at body temperature, you can drink it all the time, but in the morning it is particularly suitable because it accompanies the movement of it is particularly indicated because it accompanies the movement of Yang energy in the body,” replies the Chinese medicine specialist. Chinese medicine is based on energies, including those of Yin and Yang. "Yang is the energy of the sun, it is light, heat, movement... This energy comes at sunrise and grows until noon. Then, little by little, Yang energy gives way to Yin, which reflects the evening, the shade, the tranquility, the calm, the internalization" continues the expert.

Drinking hot salt water: advantages, disadvantages?

"Drinking salt water can have an advantage: salt promotes fluid retention and helps retain water in the body. Hot salt water, therefore, has an anti-constipation effect, especially if consumed upon waking " informs our interlocutor. Hot salt water can also be beneficial for people who sweat a lot. On the other hand, it is "not recommended for people who suffer from hypertension and edema. In addition, you have to be very careful because you already consume too much salt daily. Should not drink saltwater continuously, but punctually in case of constipation or excessive sweating".

What disadvantages?

According to our interlocutor "there is no downside to drinking hot water because the body needs water". However, be careful with the temperature: "If the water is too hot, the body will have to provide energy to cool it and conversely, if it is too cold, the body will have to heat it up" explains Josette Chapelle. It is recommended to consume 1 to 1.5 liters per day depending on body size and the seasons.
