What is a computer?

The computer is an electronic device that manipulates data according to a list of instructions. It can store, retrieve and process data. The computer is a device that is mostly used in today's life. Everything depends on the computer. It is the common use of people in modern times. One can not reject the use of a computer because it is used for document writing, sending emails, playing games and browsing the web, etc. The use of computers in different fields like education, medical field, banking, business, industry, home, and entertainment.

What are the components of a computer?

These basic four components of a computer,

a Input unit

b Main memory

c Central processing unit

d Output unit

Now I will discuss each part one by one.

1 Input unit

Input units receive data from the outside world. It is the receiving section of the computer. Some typical input devices are a cursor, scanner, joystick, and light pen.

2 Main memory

Main memory retains all the data which has been entered in the input area. It is very fast in operation. The main memory is also known as internal storage or primary storage or main storage. Main memory consists of two types RAM and ROM.

i RAM

Stands for random access memory. This is the memory whose memory can be eased or changed.

It is volatile because anything stored in it is lost when it is switched off.

ii ROM

Stands for read-only memory. It is non-volatile memory because any thin write-in ROM can not be lost if the computer is switched off.

3 CPU Central processing unit

CPU stands for the central processing unit. It consists of two major units, known as CONTROL UNIT (CU) and ARITHMETIC LOGIC UNIT (ALU). It supervises, activates, and controls the operation of other units of computer systems.

4 Output unit

The device through which the processed information comes to the outside world is called the output device. The most commonly used output devices are Display, CRT, or visual display units.

What is software?

All computer programs are generally known as software. Computer hardware can do nothing to do until software tells it what to do. The software brings life to the hardware.

What is hardware?

The physical component of a computer is called hardware, or in other words, we can say that the electrical or mechanical parts or elements of a computer are called hardware.
